Mechanism of action of chondroitin sulfate (CS)
1. supplementing proteoglycans to repair joint cartilage.
2. It has a strong hydration effect and can draw water into the proteoglycan molecules, making the cartilage thicker like a sponge, providing water and nutrients to the cartilage, enhancing the cartilage’s own metabolism, thus playing the role of shock buffering and lubrication, and is known as a “liquid magnet”.
3. Protection of cartilage by inhibiting the action of “cartilage-consuming” enzymes (e.g. collagenase, histoproteinase).
4. Reduces pain, swelling and stiffness and improves joint motion function.
Chondroitin sulfate (CS) in combination with glucosamine (GS)
●Chondroitin sulfate (CS) accelerates the process of glucosamine sulfate penetration into the joint, and the combination of the two is more effective in repairing joint cartilage and reversing damaged cartilage.
●The combination of GS and CS can enhance the inhibition of the production of various inflammatory mediators and oxygen free radicals in joint tissues, inhibit metalloproteinase activity and stabilize lysosomal membranes, thus providing anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. The combination of the two can also promote the synthesis of proteoglycans and collagen in articular cartilage tissue, maintain the stability of the cartilage extracellular matrix, and also indirectly play a role in eliminating inflammation and relieving pain.
●Clinical observation also shows that for the treatment of moderate and severe patients, the combined effect of GS and CS is higher than that of a single drug, which can more effectively reduce patients’ pain.
